Napoli stars Victor Osimhen and Fabián Ruiz were wanted by Newcastle United in the winter market. The Tyneside club reportedly made a bid for the duo, but it was turned down by the Serie A side last month.
Fabián has entered his final 18 months of his contract and no progress has made by the Naples club to tie him down to a new contract.
Journalist Paolo Bargiggia has provided the latest update on the Spain international during 1 Station Radio’s program, 1 Football Club, as relayed by Area Napoli.
After stating that Juventus also failed in signing the midfielder in January, Bargiggia adds the former Real Betis man has no plans to renew his contract with the Naples club.
“There are confirmations on the player’s intention not to renew the current contract, which expires in 2023. The boy, but above all his agent, hopes that president Aurelio De Laurentiis is willing to negotiate the sale at a reasonable price in July,” he said.
The journalist again explains the failure from Eddie Howe’s side to take both the 25-year-old and the Nigeria international in the mid-season window, and adds that Newcastle are still in the picture for the duo.
“On the Spaniard and Victor Osimhen, there is also Newcastle, who tried to take them both in January. If he had a choice, Fabián would return to Spain to play for Real, Atlético or Barcelona: it’s his dream,” Bargiggia explained.
“Juventus tempts him, but I have no sure feedback on a thrust by the them for the summer. What I know for sure is that those who assist the Iberian player would like to say goodbye to Napoli in July.”
