Marcelo Flores’ goals against Brazil and United States in the Revelations Cup made him a new sensation in Mexico, with a little reason to worry about his future as well.
Even though the Arsenal youngster has been playing for the U-20 national team, he could still choose another country to play for once he reaches the professionals, as it’s already been reported that he could end up representing Canada or England.
So there’ve been several stories about this in the local media in the past couple of days, and now his father spoke a little about it in an interview with Fox Sports.
“Canada and England send him invitations all the time, but there has been no serious rapprochement,” Ruben Flores told Fox Sports (via Marca).
“I think that it is very unfair for an 18-year-old to make a decision at such an early age without knowing how to experience more, it’s like getting married at that age.”
Despite claiming that Marcelo is glad to be playing for Mexico, his father makes it clear that things may change in the future.
“For now we are very happy with the Mexican team, I think that at the moment he will have to decide is that, if a first team speaks to him, then the serious thing begins. Canada do not take its finger off the line, I get along very well with the coach. “
“At the end of the day, the one who is going to decide, if he’s going to decide, you have to feel the colours, so when you have that decision you have to be 100 percent committed. “
Marcelo Flores has been at Arsenal’s academy since moving from Ipswich Town back in 2019.
He currently features for the Gunners’ U-18 side, despite having already trained with the first team under Mikel Arteta this year.
