After earlier reports that Marseille were talking to both Leicester and Liverpool for the transfer of Divock Origi and Islam Slimani, the French club are also apparently in talks with Newcastle about Aleksandar Mitrovic.
SFR Sport are the ones reporting this on Wednesday night in their Breaking Foot programme, with the information coming from well respected French journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi.
Unfortunately for Marseille, Rafa Benitez has made it clear he wanted at least €20m for the Serbian forward, and that could be the problem here.
The French club are also in talks with Benfica regarding Konstantinos Mitroglou, who are also asking for €20m, a sum they are reluctant to meet, which is good news for Newcastle.
It’s worth pointing out that no offer has been made as of yet, and it’s only talks for now.
That could, of course, escalate in the coming hours, but, for now, it seems he’s just a backup in case a deal for Benfica’s Greek striker or Vincent Aboubakar (who Marseille have also bid for) falls through.
Now, we wait.
