French defender Mamadou Sakho’s career at Anfield is coming to an end, after Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp publicly admitted the 26-year-old doesn’t feature in his future plans.
Trouble during Liverpool’s pre-season tour led to a situation from which it looks there is no return for Sakho.
The likes of Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion and Besiktas reportedly showed interest in Sakho in the summer, but he could also return to his homeland.
According to France Football, OGC Nice are keeping close tabs on the former Paris-Saint Germain defender. France Football also mention interest from West Brom and Serie A clubs.
However, it’s unlikely OGC Nice would be able to match his wages, or pay a big transfer fee. That would make a loan more likely.
Reports in the local Liverpool media suggests the Merseyside club are hoping to recoup the £18m they paid for him three years ago, but that looks a difficult task right now, unless Sakho stays in England.
Sakho hasn’t made a single appearance for Liverpool this season, and has also been training away from the first team.
