As long as Alvaro Morata is fully fit and scoring goals, Michy Batshuayi’s situation at Chelsea is likely to remain the same, and by that we mean sub appearances with the odd start here and there.

A very capable striker, the Belgian tends to make the most of his opportunities, scoring seven goals in 13 appearances so far this season, but is that enough to keep a man happy for an entire season when regular first-team football would be far better for his development?

Saint-Etienne don’t seem to think so, according to Le Foot in France, and the Ligue 1 side are prepared to make extravagant changes to their financial system in order to accommodate his demands.

Up until now, the French club have operated under a ‘salary cap’ system, which you’ll most commonly find around the MLS, meaning they have never given a player wages of more than €100k/month.

Unfortunately for them, Michy Batshuayi is allegedly earning €300k/month at Chelsea, and while Saint-Etienne aren’t prepared to cover all of that, they are ready to make a sacrifice to see if he can help them turn their season around.

This would mean paying the London side for the loan, while letting them cover some of his wages, and including some bonuses for the striker, including a signing on fee.

The Blues, down their end, are said to be against a loan to the Premier League for the 24-year-old, as they don’t want to strengthen a direct rival, so the option to send him to France would be preferable.

Honestly, this seems like a no go from the start, as Michy Batshuayi seems very happy at Chelsea right now, still getting into the Belgium squad and is a firm fan favourite.

We might be wrong, but we can’t see the forward being interested in a return to France, having left Marseille to help his career develop, even if that meant taking a backseat role for a bit.
