Earlier this transfer window, Sport Witness were told by a source close to the player that a move away from Crystal Palace wasn’t on the cards for summer signing Steve Mandanda.
The player was rumoured to be after a move back to Marseille, the club he left in the summer, but with a knee injury to recover from, a move in January clearly wasn’t the best option for the 31-year-old.
However, news from France on Wednesday suggested that another French club were after the Crystal Palace shot stopper, with Nice making a surprise attempt at bringing the Eagles goalkeeper back to Ligue 1.
Local newspaper Nice-Matin revealed Lucien Favre’s side, currently second in the French top-tier, two points behind AS Monaco, made an approach to sign Steve Mandanda for next summer.
However, the reply they got from the Palace keeper was that if he were to return to France, his preference would be a move to Marseille.
On top of all that, considering Nice already have four goalkeepers on their books, including the talented 22-year-old starter Yoan Cardinale, a move for Mandanda makes little sense at this time.
Probably one to file in the ‘nothing story’ drawer, if you ask us.
