We’re not sure why, but Calciomercato.com in Italy are really fond of lumping Everton and West Ham together in transfer rumour articles these days.
Maybe it’s got something to do with the fact both Sam Allardyce and David Moyes have managed both clubs at some point in their career, we don’t know.
What we do know is the Italian website have done it twice this week already, first with Hakim Ziyech and now with Lyon’s Mariano Diaz.
According to them, the Dominican Republic international (he only played in a friendly so he’s still eligible for Spain) has ‘drawn interest from both Everton and West Ham for next season’.
Bought for just €8m by the Ligue 1 side from Real Madrid, Calciomercato seem to think Mariano is now valued by Lyon at around €30m, which isn’t unreasonable considering he’s scored 18 league goals this season.
Whether he’d be interested in moving to England so soon remains to be seen, but the 24-year-old certainly has a knack for finding the back of the net, one West Ham could certainly do with these days.
Considering the article is three lines long and doesn’t provide a huge amount of detail, we won’t be holding our breath just yet, but there’s no doubt Mariano will be one of the stories of the summer.
Probably.
