After weeks of rumours, we now have confirmation that Arsenal are in fact very much interested in Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.

How do we know this? Because Lyon have made it public on Tuesday afternoon.

The aim of the statement was to dismiss a story published on Tuesday in Le Progress that claimed the Premier League side had made a €48m bid.

In the same statement, Lyon also stated that ‘reality is Arsenal made a bid of €35m to which the club didn’t give any attention’ i.e. they rejected it.

As has been the case all summer, Lyon do not want to sell their best striker as they aim to challenge Paris Saint-Germain in France, as well as give the Champions League a better go than they did last season.

Jean-Michel Aulas has made it clear in the past it would probably take a €50m bid to open negotiations regarding Lacazette.

Is this all a ploy to get Arsenal to up their bid? We’ll see.

We wouldn’t put it past Aulas.
