At Sport Witness, we always try and keep tabs on some of the beloved former players from Premier League clubs, just to keep fans up to date with how they’re doing.

You know, Liverpool’s Florent Sinama-Pongolle is now in Thailand scoring lots of goals, and Tottenham’s Rafael Van der Vaart is currently in Denmark, and has scored his first goal for FC Midtjylland!

About a month ago, we relayed an article from De Telegraaf claiming the player had been ‘annoyed’ at being taken off midway through the second half, but that’s all behind him now, and the 33-year-old, speaking to FIFA.com, is very happy with his decision to move to Denmark, especially now he’s found the back of the net again.

He said: “It’s always fantastic to score. It’s great to go to a new club and get a goal. It’s a wonderful feeling and a good start.”

Explaining one of the reasons he moved to Denmark was because his girlfriend plays handball nearby, the former Tottenham star also revealed the move was a ‘win-win’ for him, especially with the club playing ‘at the top level’.

As for life in Denmark, he said: “Life is great here. Plus I get to be close to my girlfriend and my son Damian, who lives in Hamburg. I feel at home here and that means I can get back to delivering good performances.”

The player also spoke his tough time at Real Betis, when he ‘spent almost all of his time on the bench or was left out of the squad altogether’, which wasn’t easy.

Not ruling out a return to a ‘top club’ in Europe in the near future, or even being called back up to the Netherlands squad, it’s fair to say Van der Vaart is enjoying life at the moment, and when you reach the backend of your career, that’s all that matters, really.
