As Manchester United needed a combination of results to get to the Champions League knock-out stage, the loss to Bayern Munich and elimination from the competition wasn’t such a shock last night.
The Red Devils must now switch their focus to the Premier League and Liverpool. As Diogo Dalot was interviewed by the Brazilian media, he had a little to say about that.
The fullback was interviewed by TNT Sports journalist Fred Caldeira. He was first asked about the multiple managers at Manchester United in recent years, and how they keep a good mentality to try continuing to improve things at Old Trafford.
“In all honesty, having been here for many years, I think it’s a bit like what summarises it is always the results. When you win, everything seems to be going well, and when you lose, everything seems to be going badly. And we’ve tried to keep that good mentality that even if we lose sometimes, that not everything is bad, that we’re on the right track. We have a strong dressing room, we have players with a good mentality who want to work. And we have to keep going,” said Dalot.
“I know it’s a bit of the same talk, always when we lose, but it’s the reality. We don’t have time to mourn, to think about the past, it’s about trying to put things right in training tomorrow so that on Sunday we can be in the best condition to beat Liverpool.”
Dalot was then asked about Erik ten Hag and his relationship with Manchester United’s squad. The Portugal international made it clear that the players are sticking with the manager and look forward to the upcoming Premier League games.
“What I can say is that the dressing room is strong with the coach, with all the staff. We know that the only way to take this forward is to be together, work together, fight together and suffer together. And we’ve suffered a lot this season. We believe that we’re going to be victorious, and it’s going to take time. So until then, let’s suffer together, let’s work together and let’s move forward.”
Manchester United finished their Champions League campaign at the bottom of Group A, with four points in six games. In the Premier League, they’re currently 6th, and a defeat on Sunday could make that situation worse, as Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion are not far behind.
