When Everton appointed Carlo Ancelotti in December, it’s fair to say that it was considered a major coup by everyone involved.
Having just sacked Marco Silva, and with the likes of Sam Allardyce in their recent history, the names linked with the vacant post were hardly exciting.
Indeed, at one point, David Moyes looked like he was making an emotional return, a prospect that did not excite the Everton fanbase.
Rather than going backwards, though, the Blues went forward and pulled a rabbit out of the hat by securing Ancelotti’s signature.
It was a statement appointment, with Ancelotti’s history and the clubs he’s managed ranking him among the best managers to have ever worked in the game.
That’s certainly the opinion of Mediaset journalist Antonio Bartolomucci, who didn’t hold back on his praise of the Everton boss on a recent appearance on Kiss Kiss Napoli’s Radio Gol show.
“Let’s face it, Carlo Ancelotti is the greatest living Italian coach, among the best in the world,” Arena Napoli report him saying.
“You see what he’s doing at Everton? For me he’s better than Gattuso and Antonio Conte, there’s no doubt he’s stronger than them and has more experience.
“But he has one flaw: he’s very “Milanese” in one respect. When he sees a flaw he doesn’t correct it right away, he lets go and then fills it in later.
“Unlike Gennaro Gattuso. The current Napoli coach is generous, he attacks you and then immediately hugs you, but immediately corrects mistakes, unlike Ancelotti.”
