On Saturday, L’Equipe reported that Alexandre Lacazette to Arsenal could be completed before the end of the weekend, although that was an optimistic take.
In their Monday edition the French newspaper changed the claim to Lacazette travelling for a medical on Tuesday or ‘at the latest’ Wednesday.
There’s been no inconsistencies from L’Equipe, they’re just following a live story, but all the time it’s been clear things are getting closer.
When claims emerged on Sunday of an agreed deal and everything being finalised, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas took to Twitter to rubbish it all. Everything was slightly premature, but now it looks like agreement has been found.
Aulas has wanted a headline figure of €60m and L’Equipe believe he’s just about there. Arsenal will pay €50m for Lacazette, with a further €10m in bonuses.
This deal is taken as pretty much done in France, and it’s just a matter of when it’ll be announced. It would be no surprise if Aulas got in there first, and even if he doesn’t the Lyon chief is likely to fluff his feathers over business well done.
