RB Leipzig will hold ‘concrete negotiations’ with Manchester City over defender Angeliño in the next few weeks but cannot afford their asking price for him.
The Spanish left-back has been on loan with the Bundesliga side since January when he made a surprise move on deadline day of the transfer window.
That deal includes a purchase option for Leipzig, and they are keen to turn his move into a permanent one, with Angeliño having impressed during his time at the club so far.
However, they cannot afford the price that they agreed with Manchester City, which, according to Sport Bild, is €22-23m.
That is considered ‘too high’ by Leipzig, who have instead set €30m aside for both Angeliño and striker Patrick Schick, who is on loan from Roma.
Schick’s asking price is €24-28m, meaning the Bundesliga side need a significant reduction on both players if they are to turn their temporary moves into permanent ones.
What price they are happy to pay for either player isn’t mentioned, but it is made clear they will be holding discussions with Manchester City to try and work something out.
City’s stance is also unknown but given they paid £10.8m to sign Angeliño from PSV Eindhoven last year; it’s easy to imagine they’ll want to make some sort of profit on that at least.
It’s clear that Pep Guardiola has no place for him, as he otherwise wouldn’t have let him go in January, and it’s now up to Leipzig to try and find a price that suits everyone.
