If you believe all the reports circulating, Wilfred Ndidi to Leicester City is pretty much a done deal.
The 20-year-old defensive midfielder was even at the Premier League club to pass a medical before joining Claudio Ranieri’s squad, with an €18m fee allegedly agreed.
However, if the recent claims from Genk’s director of sport, Dimitri De Condé, are true, nothing is done yet, and things still have a way to go before the transfer is made official.
Of course, this could just mean a few details being sorted, but Genk’s plan, originally, wasn’t to cash in on the Nigeria international in January.
Speaking to L’Avenir in Belgium, De Condé said: “Seeing Ndidi and Leon Bailey leave in January? It’s possible, but I’m going to do everything in my power to stop it from happening. Our plan was to replace them next season only. And yes, for Ndidi, we’re talking with Leicester, but they aren’t the only club interested.”
Despite this, the director of football knows it will be very difficult to stop deals because ‘the amounts are so important’.
The 20-year-old has been ever present for the Belgian club this season, making 32 appearances in all competitions and even scoring three goals along the way.
Leicester, who are still trying to fully replace N’Golo Kanté, are clearly the favourites to sign him, and the latest comments from Genk are probably more aimed internally.
