Leicester City star Wout Faes has shared his delight with how the international break went for him and Belgium.

The defender, quoted by Voetbal Nieuws, was a part of Domenico Tedesco’s first Belgium squad for the clashes against Sweden and Germany.

He had shared his delight at being in the squad before the games kicked off, explaining that Tedesco arriving as a replacement for Roberto Martinez, who left after the failure at the World Cup, had handed him his chance to shine.

That certainly proved to be the case, with Belgium’s new manager putting the Leicester defender into his starting 11 for both games in a new central defensive pairing alongside Jan Vertonghen.

That proved to be a smart move as Belgium’s defence managed a clean sheet in the win over Sweden and limited Germany to help secure a famous 3-2 win away from home.

That latter victory is the one Faes is particularly pleased with, and the Leicester man says this break could not have gone better for him.

“This is a prestigious win,” he said.

“I think it was from 1954 that we were able to win again against Germany. For me, this really didn’t feel like a practice match.

“We played with a lot of intensity as the coach likes. We maybe should have finished the match quicker.

“For me, this week with the Devils went perfectly. The coach said afterwards how proud he was of us and so are we.”
