Christian Fuchs signed a new contract at Leicester City in June and his current deal will keep him at the King Power Stadium until the end of this season.
Three years ago, the left-back gave an interview to Spox and admitted he planned on leaving the Foxes in 2019.
The same outlet have now asked what convinced the 34-year-old to continue with the Premier League club.
He replied: “Brendan Rodgers came to Leicester and made me feel like he was counting on me. Last season I played 17 games under him; the previous season under Claude Puel, I only played one Premier League game. At the time that was not satisfactory.
“With Brendan Rodgers, I noticed that I can still learn a lot, even though I’m slowly coming to the end of my career. The conversations with him convinced me to hang on for one more year. And finally now an additional year.”
Leicester appointed the former Liverpool manager as Puel’s successor in February 2019, and in the Northern Irishman’s first full season at the club, they finished fifth, narrowly missing out on the Champions League.
Rodgers’ side have to settle for the Europa League and Fuchs is aware he will have more opportunities this season. However, the Austrian knows he’s not the first choice left-back at Leicester.
“With the Europa League, the games will definitely not be less and of course I am expecting to get opportunities,” Fuchs explained.
“Nevertheless, I see my role unchanged from the preseason. Brendan Rogders is also someone who communicates very openly and lets everyone know exactly what their role looks like.
“For example, he said to me last year: ‘You are super professional and when I need you, you are my man. You are my second choice after Chilwell.’ It was like that and I can live with that.”
Fuchs, who has less than a year left on his contract, isn’t clear what lies ahead of him, but he would consider a move to the MLS in the future.
“I’ve been asked this question [what happens after next summer] a lot in recent years. I don’t want to commit myself to any statement,” the defender stressed.
“I’ve already changed the plan I had in mind when I came to Leicester several times. Situations change again and again. Let’s see what happens next summer.
“Of course, that’s [moving to New York] an option. New York is very well positioned with two teams and that would suit me very well with the focus of my life there.
“I also know some people at various clubs because everyone involved in American football knows everyone. But there has not yet been a request.”
