Leicester City have been ‘very interested’ in a move for Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah over the past year, as they sought out a new centre-back.

That’s according to BILD, who say that a move to the King Power now seems unlikely as he’s just signed a new deal at the German club.

Leicester chased a new centre-back for much of the summer, with Brendan Rodgers seeking further competition for Wesley Fofana, Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu.

The issue became a pressing issue when Fofana was injured in a pre-season game, with them eventually settling on a deal for Southampton’s Jannik Vestergaard.

Before that, they were linked with several centre-backs in Europe, including Tah, who it was stated they were ‘interested’ in.

At one point, a move looked easy to get over the line when it was stated the player ‘wants to go to England’, and it was even claimed the Foxes had been in contact about a move.

That ultimately never happened, and BILD report Tah has instead signed a new deal at the German club until 2025.

In their report, they state that Leicester were ‘very interested’ in the centre back, but that speculation should now come to an end for the foreseeable future thanks to his new deal.

So, if you happen to see the Foxes linked in the coming months or even next summer, know that there’s probably some truth in it, but a deal is now much harder to get done than it was in the summer.
