The past few months or so have been very active for the Algerian press as they try to find out where Islam Slimani is going to end up.
Clearly stuck in a rut at Leicester City, the striker needs to move somewhere else in January, as the arrival of Claude Puel has done nothing to improve his game time at King Power Stadium.
The former Sporting CP star has been linked with moves to Watford, Everton and Crystal Palace recently, but Rennes in Ligue 1 have also recurrently popped up with hope of a loan with a view to buy.
However, Compétition in Algeria believe that option isn’t something Slimani wants, with the 29-year-old making a stay in England a ‘priority’ instead of moving to France.
The Leicester forward hasn’t achieved the personal goals he’d set himself when he first move to the Premier League, and believes he still has a point to prove, wanting to establish himself in one of the toughest leagues in the world.
Despite his difficult time with the Foxes, Slimani has a ‘particular affection’ for the league, meaning the likes of Watford and Everton a better suited for him.
The Rennes link always seemed like a long-shot, and it seems the French side will now need to look elsewhere.
