Despite playing an integral part in Brendan Rodgers’ plans at Leicester City last season, Caglar Soyüncü appeared to fall out of favour towards the end of the campaign.
The Turkey international found himself on the bench for the last five games of the league campaign following a 3-1 loss to Tottenham, and now his future is up in the air.
The primary reason for this is the fact his contract at Leicester expires next summer, meaning the Foxes have a choice to make: either renew him or sell him.
As he is still only 26 years of age, there are arguments for both of those options, because he could still bring in a good fee, all the while still having room to improve and regain Rodgers’ trust should he stay.
That being said, he could also easily be tempted away from the King Power Stadium, as Leicester won’t be playing any European football next year, while Inter, who are reportedly interested, will be featuring in the Champions League.
The story comes from Gazzetta dello Sport, who look at the future of Milan Škriniar, currently being courted by Paris Saint-Germain.
Should the Slovakian be sold, he would need replacing, and while the favourite for the role is Torino’s Gleison Bremer, with whom Inter would ‘already have an agreement in principle’, the club are proving tough to negotiate with and ‘must be convinced’.
That’s where the Foxes defender comes in, as ‘the other names on the list are Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenković and Leicester’s Soyüncü’.
Both players have contracts expiring in 2023, and ‘both are thrilled by the Inter hypothesis’.
However, before any move is made, Inter ‘need to sell Škriniar’, at which point the Serie A will turn their attention to other players on the transfer market.
