It’s been a while since we’ve seen Rachid Ghezzal’s name at Sport Witness, nearly a year, in fact, but he’s back thanks to Le10 Sport and Leicester.
Once linked with a host of Premier League sides when his contract at Lyon was running out, the Algeria international eventually signed on a free to Monaco, which he probably regrets.
Arriving to help fill the void left by Bernardo Silva’s exit down the Ligue 1 club’s right-hand side, Ghezzal was quickly supplanted by Rony Lopes, and ended up starting just seven times in the league under Leonardo Jardim.
At 26, the former Lyon winger can’t really afford to see his career stagnate, meaning an exit could be on the cards.
According to Le10 Sport, one of the clubs interested are Leicester City, who have just seen Ghezzal’s compatriot, Riyad Mahrez, leave to play under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
The French website state the Foxes are ‘well positioned, to sign him, especially since Claude Puel is said to know the forward well, which could help sway the negotiations in the Premier League club’s favour.
This is a new one, and we’ll be keeping an eye for any updates in the near future.
