Leicester City’s interest in the Benfica right-back André Almeida continues to be taken very seriously in Portugal, getting two stories from local newspapers today.
As reported by both O Jogo and Record, emissaries from the Premier League club have travelled to Lisbon this weekend just to watch the player in action.
The rumour got quite strong in the January market, when the Foxes were first said to be interested, but failed to meet Benfica’s demands.
That’s why the headlines say the pursuit is still on, and it’s very likely that Leicester would try to bring him to England next summer.
Almeida currently has a €30m release claluse, and as written by the newspapers, it will be up to Benfica if they will want to negotiate him for a lower amount or not.
It actually doesn’t really sound like a big price for a player in his prime these days, but since reports from the summer said Leicester didn’t want to spend more than €5m, that was definitely a problem.
