Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has an agreement with Ligue 1 side Nice, according to claims from France.
L’Equipe writes that the player himself has given the green light for the operation. It’s pointed out he’s ‘able to sign for free for a foreign club this summer’, as long as the Foxes find a replacement for him.
The outlet makes it clear that Leicester City are still to find a replacement, and that’s said to be what is ‘currently blocking’ the transfer.
However, we may have already seen some news today which may prove that this deal is going forward.
On Tuesday morning, we covered Portuguese newspaper Record pointing out Leicester City had already been preparing for Schmeichel’s departure, as they are targeting Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.
The signing of the Greek player would depend on the Dane’s departure, and that’s why the Foxes hadn’t made strong moves yet. The Eagles are said to be demanding between €15m and €20m, which is considered to be a cheap price, since he’s not guaranteed to be a starter this season following the change of managers at the club.
So with Schmeichel now agreeing to leave, it seems it’s time for Leicester to make their attempt for Vlachodimos.
