After the English media reported that Leicester would be offering Riyad Mahrez a new contract, the news were published with a bit of frustration in Spain. Barcelona were said to be interested, but the signing for the Catalan club now seems more unlikely.
AS’ headline says “Leicester offer 6.7 million to Mahrez, Barça’s objective“, as the club would be missing out on the signing. The website doesn’t give much details about the interest, but mention Mahrez as if he was a top target for Luis Enrique’s side this summer.
Apart from the new contract, Mahrez’ signing would be difficult because of the big competition as well. AS mentions Juventus, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool all as potential candidates to buy him.
The article claims Mahrez is currently worth €20m, but Leicester would ask for at least €30m to sell him. The manager Claudio Ranieri would apparently do everything to keep the 25-year-old, even if it means the departure of players like N’Golo Kanté and Jamie Vardy.
