Rachid Ghezzal didn’t have the best start during his loan move to Fiorentina. Having struggled to impose himself with Leicester City, he found a similar situation in Serie A, and the assumption was he’d be sent back to the Premier League club this summer.
However, everything changed after the restart, Fiorentina decided on new tactics, and Ghezzal was given a move central role. He managed to thrive, and now the club’s fans, and several of the team, want the Leicester owned player to remain for longer.
Fiorentina’s problem is the fee. They agreed a €10m buying clause with Leicester when taking out the loan, but their finances are in such a state they now find that figure hard to meet.
Leicester are showing little sympathy, with FootMercato saying the club are ‘putting pressure’ on La Viola, who would rather have another loan, to pay up or lose the player for next season.
There’s said to be interest from other, unnamed, Serie A clubs, which will be helping the Foxes to turn the screw.
