There are two different Portuguese newspapers saying that Leicester City are interested in Benfica right-back André Almeida today.
First up is O Jogo, who claims that scouts from the Premier League club have watched the player in action against Tondela this weekend.
If you check the list of scouts who were present at the game, Leicester City won’t be there. O Jogo claims it’s because the emissary didn’t want to make his presence official.
They say this wasn’t the first time that the Foxes scouted Almeida, as the club already has the intention to sign him in the January market.
This information is pretty much backed up by Record, who says that Leicester are already preparing a bid for the 27-year-old.
The Foxes would be aware Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira is not an easy man to negotiate with, and since right-back Douglas is returning to Barcelona next month, a convincing offer will be needed to take Almeida from the club. That’s why Leicester are doing some thinking before putting the bid on the table.
André Almeida had a €30m release clause, but when renewing his contract with the Eagles this year, the new amount wasn’t made public.
In case it’s still €30m, then we’re pretty sure that’s what Benfica will ask for.
