Leicester City defender Jannik Vestergaard is currently taking part in the Euros with Denmark, who are qualified for the round-of-16.

After finishing second in a group with England, Slovenia and Servia, they now have a tough challenge in the knock-out-stage, as they’re facing Germany.

As Fotboll Skanalen features an interview with Vestergaard, the Leicester City player reveals that he could’ve actually been playing for the opposite side.

That’s because Germany previously invited him to play for them, given he qualifies via his mother, but he chose to continue representing Denmark instead.

“They asked if I could imagine playing for Germany, and in theory I could. But there was a dream that knocked harder, and that was to play in red and white and at Parken. It weighed the heaviest,” said Vestergaard.

Vestergaard was a starter in Denmark’s matches against Slovenia, England and Serbia. There’s no doubt he’ll be there to face Germany in the decisive match on Saturday.

The defender made his debut for the national team a long time ago, back in 2013, when he still belonged to Hoffenheim. He then had moves to Werder Bremen, Borussia Monchengladbach and Southampton before arriving at Leicester City in the summer of 2021.
