Despite featuring just three times so far for Newcastle United since his arrival on loan from Leicester City, Islam Slimani has impressed Rafa Benitez enough for the manager to consider making the move permanent.

According to Le Buteur, the Algeria international is ‘headed towards’ staying at St James’ Park for the foreseeable future, and the Foxes aren’t exactly against it, but only if the Magpies pay up.

For that to happen, Leicester, who know how much Newcastle, as a club, and their fans appreciate the striker, are looking for around €25m.

On paper, that represents a loss, but taking into account how little he has been used since his arrival in August 2016, it’s actually quite a good deal were it to come off.

While he didn’t score against Everton, which was his first start in a Newcastle shirt, the 29-year-old put in a solid shift and will most likely start against bottom of the table West Brom at the weekend.

He still needs to get his first goal for the Geordie side, and that’s an ideal game to do it in, to be honest.
