Leicester City have made another attempt to sign Sassuolo defender Francesco Acerbi, according to claims in the Italian media. The 28-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League champions in recent weeks.
Calciomercato have revealed Leicester City have offered Sassuolo £12m for the central defender after having a previous offer turned down by the Serie A side. Earlier in the window we covered reports Leicester City put in bid of £7m to sign Acerbi, which was turned down by Sassuolo.
However, despite Leicester City upping their offer for Acerbi, the Italian is likely to remain with Sassuolo at least until the summer. The president of the Italian club isn’t keen to sell one of their prize assets in this window, and the player has built a special bond with the Sassuolo coach.
And just in case you didn’t believe that, Gazzetta dello Sport report on Tuesday the Foxes’ second attempt at signing the centre-back has been rejected by the Serie A side, as they try and improve on their 16th position in the league.
Towards the end of last year, Leicester City sent a scout to watch a match between Fiorentina and Sassuolo. This led to the Italian media speculating who Leicester City were watching, including players from Fiorentina.
Since then Leicester have been linked with serious interest in several of the players who were on show, some of which looked to have been opportunistic stories to help players get a new contract.
