Rachid Ghezzal joined Leicester City from AS Monaco in the summer 2018 window. The attacker was unable to impress during his first season with the Foxes and in September 2019 he was sent out on loan to Fiorentina.

That loan included a buying option for the Serie A club, which meant they could make the move permanent for €10m. Fiorentina want to keep Ghezzal, but it’s been made clear repeatedly in the Italian media that they have no intention of paying the previously agreed figure.

Previous reports have stated the Tuscany club would still work for a permanent transfer and would go into negotiations with Leicester to get the figure down.

That’s changed slightly, according to TMW. They report Fiorentina are now looking to loan the player for a further season, and are locked in negotiations with the Premier League club to try and achieve this.

Leicester, however, want to sell Ghezzal outright and cut their ties with him during the current transfer market. The 28 year old has a contract with the Foxes until June 2022, and they won’t want to see his value decrease further.

One option which could work for both clubs would be a loan with a mandatory purchase option, although TMW don’t mention that.
