It’s been a while since Sporting’s wish to bring Islam Slimani back from Leicester City was reported. And after some time of silence, the Portuguese press brings the reason why the Lions will have a hard time with the signing.
As reported by A Bola today, Leicester City are being positive about loaning Islam Slimani until the end of the season. The problem is the club don’t want to continue paying a penny of his salary.
Sporting clearly don’t have the conditions to afford Slimani’s full wages, so that looks like an impossible deal for now. A Bola claims that the striker currently earns €2.3m after tax per season.
Signed on a €30m deal in the summer of 2016, Slimani didn’t quite work out as expected in Leicester.
He has played only 400 minutes this season, and even managed to get a decent record with four goals in the EFL Cup, but is still to score in the Premier League.
