Leicester City are tracking Serie A stars Fiorentina’s Josip Ilicic and Sassuolo’s Lorenzo Pellegrini, according to claims in the Italian media. Earlier today we covered reports the Premier League champions have been sending scouts to watch Ilicic this season.
TMW have now claimed Leicester City are hoping to strengthen their squad when the transfer window opens next month, and the two Serie A players are the two main targets for the Foxes.
Leicester City have struggled this season with trying to defend their Premier League title and compete in the Champions League, so there’s naturally been transfer rumours.
With Claudio Ranieri’s side now in the last 16 of Europe’s premier competition the club will be seen as open to winter recruitment, and Ilicic and Pellegrini are two options stated as open to the Italian manager.
Today we covered reports Leicester City officials were at the game between Fiorentina and Sassuolo last weekend to get a lowdown Ilicic. The Slovenia international has been in impressive form for the Viola in the past 12 months after a difficult period with the Serie A side previously.
It was also suggested Leicester City were watching French attacker Grégoire Defrel, but TMW seem to think it’s his Sassuolo teammate Pellegrini.
We’ll cut to the chase here, it seems the Italian media haven’t got a clue who Leicester were watching in the match and these links will likely continue for a handful of the players who were on display.
If you allow us to have our own educated guess, the target may well have been Fiorentina forward Nikola Kalinic, given that his agent claimed Leicester interest in July.
Ranieri’s spies are likely scouting ‘just in case’, giving them targets to go for should someone leave or suffer a long term injury.
