Despite the strong links between Real Betis and Leicester City striker Ayoze Perez, it seems this story is actually taking an unexpected path.
Spanish outlet Marca writes that even though ‘everything indicated’ that move would happen before the end of the January transfer window, that transfer has now collapsed.
That’s because Villarreal managed to take the lead in the race for the Leicester City player, and Perez is now set to join the Yellow Submarine.
For now, Marca doesn’t bring any details on the deal between the clubs, although it shouldn’t take long until other Spanish outlets come up with more information.
Just yesterday, the Spanish media had been sounding very confident about Perez’s move to Betis, claiming he had already said goodbye to his Leicester City teammates, and would be joining his new club on a loan until the end of the season.
Now, it remains to be seen whether Villarreal’s offer was more attractive to the Foxes, or if it was the player himself who saw a better opportunity in joining the Yellow Submarine.
