Leicester City’s brilliant victory over Sevilla on Tuesday night wasn’t covered hugely by the Spanish sport newspapers. Of course, there were match reports, and it was covered, but there wasn’t the huge front page splashes which may have been expected.
The Spanish media were a little stung. It was all fun and games when Leicester were turning the Premier League on its head, but something quite different when it meant a Spanish team getting knocked out of the Champions League.
Thankfully that hasn’t extended to their choosing of an MVP for the last round of Champions League matches. Spanish newspaper Marca and Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport, two grand old European sport newspapers, have chosen a shortlist of eleven players.
Leicester City have a very impressive five in there, with AS Monaco, who knock Manchester City out, having 4.
Jamie Vardy, Wesley Morgan, Christian Fuchs, Marc Albrighton and Kasper Schmeichel are all included in the selection and a winner will be announced on Thursday evening.
