We know Ligue 1 clubs aren’t exactly blessed with Premier League finances, but Leicester City’s offers for Marseille’s Bouna Sarr are quite laughable, especially in today’s market.

First seeing a bid of €3m rejected, the Foxes allegedly returned on Wednesday evening with a €5m offer, according to RMC Sport, an amount also swiftly discarded by the French club.

We’re no experts in transfer negotiations, but surely, if you’ve seen your rather low bid get pushed to one side, followed by the other club’s manager expressing publicly his board didn’t even bother to tell him about the offer, you don’t just add €2m and hope for the best.

Bouna Sarr might not be the most highly rated player at Marseille, something Leicester City are well aware of, but he has been key in the absence of Jordan Amavi, with Hiroki Sakai being pushed to left-back, and Rudi Garcia has made that clear.

Marseille’s lack of depth in the full-back position since Patrice Evra’s sacking has been a worry for the French club, and it seems Claude Puel is going to have to ask his board to up the offer again if he wants the makeshift right-back at King Power Stadium for the second half of the season.

We’d try doubling it, Leicester, then maybe you’ve got a chance.

His contract does run until 2020, after all.
