Marcel Tisserand Marca August 23rdLeicester City and Arsenal are in a tussle with La Liga’s Espanyol to sign French defender Marcel Tisserand, according to claims from Spanish newspaper Marca.

Espanyol are said to have been in talks for weeks in an attempt to buy Tisserand, but they face competition from the two English clubs who are both pushing to sign the player.

Last week we covered claims from France Football that Arsenal are interested in Tisserand, with the French magazine explaining that Arsene Wenger wants two defensive recruits.

As well as a big name to go straight into the team, Wenger is apparently keen on a squad addition. The 23 year old can play in central defence and at right back, so offers some flexibility.

Tisserand currently plays for AS Monaco but it’s fair to say he’s not yet a star for the club, although he’s been highly rated as a prospect for several years.

The young defender hasn’t broken through at Monaco, and has instead been on loan spells with Lens and Toulouse.
