L’Equipe today have compiled a Best Players of the World Cup team.
There’s a very good balance of Premier League stars involved, with Thibaut Courtois, Eden Hazard, Kevin de Bruyne, Paul Pogba and, less likely before the tournament, Kieran Tripper all finding their way in.
Less positively, there’s also a Worst Players of the World Cup team, and three Premier League players find their way into the unwanted selection.
Chelsea back-up goalkeeper Willy Caballero, Arsenal star Mesut Ozil, and Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho are the unfortunate candidates.
Caballero is the worst, with a rating of 2.5/10. The Chelsea player was especially poor against Croatia for Argentina, and that Chelsea have their goalkeepers in the best and worst selections shows the gap between the options available at Stamford Bridge.
Next up is Mesut Ozil, with the Arsenal player getting a 3/10 average rating. Ozil is receiving heavy criticism in Germany for his performances, and there’s even been suggestions from some of a potential retirement from the international game.
Iheanacho gets 3.5/10 and the Leicester City player may be looking to leave the Foxes this summer to get his career back on track.
