One of the more prominent Everton rumours of the transfer window, with an actual offer being made, the signing of Rachid Ghezzal from Lyon never happened.

The winger, who still hasn’t signed a new contract with the French club, was a target for both Ronald Koeman’s side and Slaven Bilic’s West Ham, while Arsenal were also briefly mentioned.

However, another club, whose name has now filtered through thanks to France Football, was also keeping an eye on the situation, and that happened to be Premier League champions Leicester City.

The Foxes suffered an awkward few weeks in August when Arsenal were said to be attempting to lure RIyad Mahrez away from the club, and the French website claim Ghezzal’s name was added to a shortlist of replacements had their attempts to secure their Algerian star’s presence at the King Power Stadium failed.

Lyon are reportedly offering the 24-year-old forward a new three year contract, as his current deal runs out in the summer, and a free transfer in January could happen if the player stalls negotiations.

France Football remain optimistic a deal can be done between Ghezzal and Lyon, but worry could start creeping in if nothing is signed by December.
