With 19 points from 12 games, Jose Mourinho’s start at Manchester United has certainly been underwhelming.

The former Chelsea manager made some big signings in the summer, and Manchester United were expected to be challenging for the title with the combination of an improved squad and Mourinho.

Dutch international Wesley Sneijder has come in support of his former boss, who signed him for Inter Milan

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Sneijder insists Mourinho needs time to make a ‘great team’ at Manchester United.

He said: “I am convinced that he will make a great team. But he also needs time in Manchester and they didn’t even give it to Van Gaal.

“When you change clubs and find yourself at a historic club that needs to start winning right away it’s not easy to work, but Mourinho is great.”

Sneijder has been linked with a move to the Premier League several times in his career including Manchester United, but tat ship looks to have sailed, and he still has another couple of years left on his contract at Galatasaray.
