Dutch legend Marco van Basten believes Feyenoord star Orkun Kökcü should stay where he is and avoid interest from Arsenal for the time being.

The Gunners have been linked with the midfielder for some time but never made a serious move to bring him to the Emirates.

It’s believed that could change in the summer, with Arsenal once again reportedly showing an interest in his signature.

Reports in the Netherlands have made it clear that they would be an ideal step for the midfielder, with Kökcü even stating that he’s keen on a transfer as long as he can provide Feyenoord with a ‘nice transfer fee’.

Whether a move happens remains to be seen, with the summer transfer window likely to be a busy one for Mikel Arteta and co.

But while everyone else in the Netherlands seems to think the move would be a good one for Kökcü, Van Basten thinks otherwise.

“He should stay with Feyenoord for at least another year and a half,” he told Ziggo Sport, relayed by Voetbal Primeur.

“Become stronger, hold on to your place in the starting line-up and then go abroad at some point. That’s also better for yourself.

“Otherwise, you go too young. That happens every time, and you even see it in the big boys who went to Barcelona and Real Madrid. They too have had problems with it.”
