Leeds United face Las Palmas on Sunday in a preseason friendly and the Spanish media are starting to cover the match.

Las Palmas are the only team from Spain’s second division who are going on a preseason tour outside of the country, and Marca are interested.

Like several European clubs already have this summer, the club from the Canary Islands has spent time training at St George’s Park.

The facilities on offer at England’s base have a strong and growing reputation around Europe, and Barcelona have been there twice in recent years.

Leeds United has a ‘Spanish accent’ says Marca, given Samu Saiz and Pablo Hernandez are at the club. But, more than that, there’s Victor Orta pulling strings behind the scenes.

Marca contacted the Leeds man to ask him about the friendly and he seems quite excited: “We are talking about two historical teams and I am sure that, in addition to playing a level match, the name of Las Palmas will sound with a lot of echo in the country.”

That may be overplaying it a little, but it’ll certainly be an interesting test for both clubs.

Rafa Mir, who joined Las Palmas on loan from Wolves this week, is part of the travelling group.
