Leeds United director of football Victor Orta has advised Erling Haaland to join Real Madrid next summer if he has the choice.
Haaland has established himself as one of the best forwards in Europe over the last two years with a superb goalscoring record at Borussia Dortmund.
His tally of 68 goals and 19 assists in 67 games for the club, since his arrival in January 2020, means he is among the elite players when it comes to goalscoring numbers.
It means the biggest clubs around the world would all love to have him at their disposal, something that could be a possibility next summer.
The Norwegian has a clause in his contract which makes a move easier next summer, a situation his agent Mino Raiola will likely be relishing.
One of the clubs linked are Real Madrid and the Leeds chief, who just so happens to be Spanish, believes they would be the best club for him.
“In my eyes, he is the world’s best striker if we talk about strikers who play in the role of nine. If I can be allowed to choose, and it’s probably a bit about me being Spanish, then I will see him in Real Madrid,” he told Dagbladet in an interview with journalist Jonas Giæver.
“The truth is that he is a type of striker who has always worked at Real Madrid.
“If you go back to the ’80s, you have Hugo Sánchez, who I remember from when I was a child. He was a warrior, a finisher, who became a favourite among the supporters.
“I obviously work in another league, and of course I support the Premier League, but my supporter’s heart is in La Liga, and I want them to maintain their strength.”
When asked if he has a dream of Haaland moving to Elland Road, Orta chuckled, before replying: “I think that if we meet, it will be because Leeds United have done extremely well. His career is going to be so powerful, so if we ever meet that way, it will be because we at Leeds United have done a lot right.”
