Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has revealed he would again one day like to play in Sweden. The 25-year-old recently committed his long-term future to Leeds United, but has never hidden his love for his former club Malmo.
Speaking to the Ola Wentrom, Jansson was asked whether he would ever consider returning to Allsvenskan at some point in his career. The Leeds United star confirmed that he hopes one day to play in the Swedish top flight because it’s a championship he admires. The Sweden international said clubs in his home country have started to invest in players, with some top players heading back to the league.
“I’ve been at Malmö since I was very young and now I watch more as a supporter when I don’t play there anymore, so of course I follow it religiously and watch everything. In one way or the other, I guess so. I love Allsvenskan, there is a certain charm, and the investment with all the players returning home. It makes me happy. It’s nice,” said the Leeds United player.
Jansson made his name at Malmo before getting his big move to Serie A club Torino. In recent years talent has been produced in Allsvenskan with Leeds United signing Marcus Antonsson in the summer from FC Kalmar, and also making attempts to sign IFK Norrköping youngster Linus Walqvist.
The Swedish league has also seen high profile players returning to finish their careers, with former Arsenal and Roma midfielder Kim Kallstrom recently signing for Djurgårdens IF. Returning to Sweden for Jansson could be an option in the future, but first he has plans to get Leeds United back into the Premier League.
