Emiliano Buendia was first linked with a move to Swansea City in January 2017. It was supposed to be a loan move from his club Getafe.

Nothing came of it, and then Buendia was linked with Swansea City again in early July. According to Marca the player was ‘on the verge’ of signing for Swansea, but there was a hold-up because Tenerife were also interested in the player.

Then just a few weeks later, Buendia actually moved to Cultural Leonesa on loan. Marca reported that Getafe saw Buendia as a major part of their future and believed he’d get more minutes on loan at Cultural, who have a relationship with Leeds United.

On Sunday, Football League World and others have covered Alan Nixon’s (from The Sun) claims that Leeds are lining up a move for the player. Cultural have Buendia on loan until the end of June, but he’s still very much Getafe’s player, with a contract there until 2021.

Swansea City failed to get a deal done in either January or July, for whatever reason, and now it’s Leeds United’s turn to have a look.

There’d be no issue with a work permit for Leeds, because 20 year old Buendia has dual Argentine and Spanish nationality, so that’s the first hurdle jumped.
