January 30th saw claims from Spain that Emiliano Martinez was on his way to Leeds United.

The 25 year old goalkeeper is owned by Arsenal but has been spending the season on loan at Getafe, playing a back-up role to Vicente Guaita.

Getafe’s senior goalkeeper was repeatedly linked with Crystal Palace during the January window, but as it became apparent a deal wouldn’t be found, it seems Martinez wanted out.

AS’ article on Martinez to Leeds United was pretty straightforward, they thought the move was happening.

It would be an odd one to pluck from thin air and we don’t believe the Spanish newspaper will have fabricated a story about a Getafe reserve going to Elland Road.

So what happened? Marca say Martinez wanted to leave but no club managed to ‘convince all parties’.

Andy Lonergan’s failed move to Sunderland could be the reason behind that and now both goalkeepers will remain with the clubs they spent the first half of the season with.
