Leeds United chief Massimo Cellino has been named in the top ten crazy owners in European football by Foxsports. Cellino bought the club in 2014, but his reign has been controversial with a number of managers hired in the past two years.
During his time in Italy, Cellino earned the nickname ‘Manger Eater’, and he’s continued to live up to this in England. Foxsports mention the treatment of Brian McDermott who was recalled by Cellino and then sacked six months later.
They also highlight the issues with Cellino and allegations of tax evasion, whilst at the same time Leeds United struggle to get back into the Premier League.
“The coach (Brian McDermott) was then recalled and sacked again after just six months. No better successors. Not to mention the allegations against the patron, almost all related to non-payment of taxes. Meanwhile, the team floats in mid-table in the Championship.”
Cellino has been a controversial figure since arriving in England over two years ago, and during that time he’s had his run-ins with the football authorities.
Leeds United currently stand 11th in the Championship, and will be hoping current manager Garry Monk can take them further up the table, with a shot at the play-offs still very much within grasp.
