Leeds United are in the picture to sign FC Zürich’s Wilfried Gnonto this summer, according to claims coming out of Italy.

The forward has managed a goal from eight appearances in all competitions this season and it came during the Swiss club’s Europa League qualifying tie against Linfield FC.

With less than 12 months left on his current deal, the 18-year-old is wanted by Leeds.

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Whites are ‘working to sign’ him from Zürich for a fee of €4-5m. That’s about the only information mentioned in the tweet.

Sky Italia, in their transfer live blog, say there is ‘strong interest’ from Leeds to secure the player’s services. Apart from the Premier League side, there are other clubs interested in him.

The report doesn’t provide the details of these clubs, but does state that Jesse Marsch’s side can ‘beat the competition’ to bring the Italy international to Elland Road.

Leeds’ ‘goal is to close’ the operation for €4-5m by August 25th.
