As Leeds United are pointed out as one of the clubs interested in landing Gonzalo Plata this summer, we now see an interesting update coming from Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã.
The winger, who belongs to Sporting, has just had a loan spell at Real Valladolid. And facing the Spanish side’s hesitance over triggering their €10m buying option, other clubs are watching the situation.
Leeds are said to be one of them, and according to Correio da Manhã, in case the La Liga side do not use the clause, then the Whites ‘will advance’.
Sporting, meanwhile, are said to be ‘in expectation’. They have 50% of the player’s rights and believe they can make €5m, that is, selling him for €10m to any other club.
With reports from Ecuador this week saying Valladolid are willing to offer €7m for Plata, as they have no way of paying the €10m, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claims Sporting are waiting for a ‘superior offer’.
The outlet mentions that the likes of Leeds and Real Betis are interested in the winger as well. Considering how things stand, it sounds like the Elland Road side could end up beating Spanish clubs to the signing.
