Leeds United and Ibai Gomez rumbles on in the Spanish media this weekend.

Last week, claims of renewed interest originally came from Goal and the idea of a January transfer was pushed forward, with the quest said to be led by manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Sport Witness was able to confirmed that Gomez himself is interested in a transfer to English football, and Leeds being a Championship club wouldn’t rule out the possibility.

The Alaves player would be attracted by the club’s status and history, and the chance to work with Bielsa again.

Marca reports the Whites could face their most serious competition from Athletic Club Bilbao. Despite Gomez having a difficult exit from the Basque club last time he was there, the Spanish newspaper explains an attempt could be made to sign him back from Alaves.

There are presidential elections coming up at Athletic, and it’s stated candidates could use signing Gomez as part of their campaign to get the job.

As for Leeds United, it’s explained they intend to get the signing done.
