Earlier on Tuesday, we passed on information emerging from Italy that Jerry Mbakogu’s transfer to Leeds United, which was always going to be for next summer, had hit a bit of a snag due to his passport situation.

There’s been a bit of confusion regarding whether or not the Nigerian forward holds an Italian passport, with claims in Italy that he’s in the process of getting one.

According to La Gazzetta di Modena, the two clubs will put talks on hold (although they’ll remain in contact), as the 25-year-old waits for his passport.

Anyways, if that is the case and the documentation is on its way (and his application is expected to be successful), then all will be well in the summer, when the two clubs reopen negotiations for Mbakogu.

The local Italian newspaper also report an update on the fee, with Leeds said to be paying a base fee of around €3-4m for the striker, which is lower than the €5m reported on Monday and the €7m later reported.

The Championship club are said to have beaten the rest of the competition (all English clubs) to bring Mbakogu to Elland Road in the summer, and they’ll be undoubtedly keeping an eye on his performances during the second half of the season.
