Leeds United defender Giuseppe Bellusci is on the verge of leaving the club to join Serie A side Empoli. This week Empoli re-entered into talks with Leeds United after it looked like the deal wouldn’t happen.
Empoli Channel have reported this morning that Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino held meetings with the leaders of Empoli late into Thursday night, and progress was made during those discussions.
It’s been claimed a deal is close, with the possibility Bellusci could sign for the Tuscan club today. The Leeds United defender has been linked with a return to his home country in recent weeks, and it seems he’s got his wish.
Yesterday we covered reports from Italy that Leeds United had agreed to Empoli’s valuation of the defender, subsequently agreeing to accept €300k less than they’d wanted.
Empoli will be hoping they can get the deal done as soon as possible due to the interest from local rivals Pisa. Bellusci has also been linked with Ascoli, Bologna and Tornio.
